Look, we know that Genesis Cabrera had a bad night, but right now the Cardinals are second in HBP with 19 (Cubs have 21) and are fourth in walks with 94 (Cubs, Reds, Rockies ahead). Is this lack of command a problem? Is it just a weird artifact of less than a month of baseball? I really don’t know so I’d like some feedback.
HBP might be due to sample size. Plenty of walks though, and it's quite an ugly stat they're recording. But at the same time only the Mets and Red Sox have given up fewer homers. Maybe a conscious effort to nibble around the edges of the plate a bit more often rather than risk the long ball? I dunno - being based in the UK means I'm just watching highlights rather than full games, so I'm just guessing :-)
That's a reasonable guess but I'd also say that, if it is, they aren't thinking wisely. They play in a ballpark that suppresses offense and have a very good defense behind them. Not saying to lay it down the middle but getting them to hit the ball usually would be smart.
I'm not sure if it's because the Cardinals seem to have a lot of young pitchers who concentrate on throwing hard and therefore don't have the control down yet or it's just anomaly.

It's probably somewhat due to inexperience. Something to watch, I guess.
